How to Review GATE MA MCQ, MSQ, and NAT Questions Differently

The official GATE 2027 question-paper pattern separates three response formats. An incorrect MCQ attracts negative marks; an MSQ has no negative marking but also no partial marks; a NAT has no negative marking and requires a numerical entry. Those rules change what must be checked after a practice attempt.

Take the original matrix (A=\begin{pmatrix}2&0\0&3\end{pmatrix}). An MCQ can ask for its determinant; an MSQ can ask which of several properties hold; a NAT can ask for its trace. The mathematics overlaps, but “I know diagonal matrices” is not a useful review note. The MCQ needs a selection justification, the MSQ needs an option-by-option truth table, and the NAT needs a numerical audit.

A review sheet that preserves the format

For MCQs, record the decisive evidence and the alternative you nearly chose. For MSQs, give every option its own true-or-false test before judging the set. For NATs, retain the unrounded value, the submitted value, and the unit or scale. This produces evidence that can guide the next practice block instead of a generic “careless mistake” label.
